New automotive business opens on city’s west side

After six years growing together, Tri-Point Automotive and Mike’s In & Out Auto Repair merged their businesses to open a new all-in-one service center on the west side of Bellefontaine this week.

While owner Dan Bickham will maintain his car lot at the intersection of north Main Street and Rush Avenue, the new Tri-Point Service Center at 1213 W. Sandusky Ave. will serve as a base for servicing and detailing cars before going onto the lot as well as Mike Kerns’ growing customer base, Mr. Bickham said.

“It was just a natural progression,” the car dealer said. “When we started Tri-Point, Mike was starting his business. We both just grew and it seemed like the right thing to do. A bigger facility means better service for my customers and a place for Mike to grow.

“It’s going to make everything more convenient to have one location so all cars can be serviced and detailed.”

Mr. Kerns said the new 3,200-square-foot garage with 10 bays, six entry doors and four lifts will be a much-needed increase in space for him and two other mechanics to service vehicles.

“I started out in a two-car garage with a desk, so this is a big change,” he said. “I think I can be a lot more effective with my work and a lot more efficient, actually.”

Mr. Bickham said his business is largely geared toward Honda and Acura vehicles and Mike’s experience over the past six years working on them puts the new service center in an ideal spot to fill a void left by the recent departure of another Honda mechanic.

“We do specialize in Hondas and Acuras and there is an inherent need in Logan County,” Mr. Bickham said. “But Mike will work on any type of car.”

Mr. Bickham is assisted in operating the business by his son Ben Bickham and employee Amy Drake while mechanics Blaze Clark and Bill Horne round out the six-person operation.
