Resignation of fire chief accepted; effective Saturday

West Liberty Village Council accepted the resignation Monday of Fire Chief John Esch during a regular meeting.

His resignation for the purpose of retirement is effective Saturday.

Conrad Hostetler, currently the assistant fire chief was promoted to fire chief. His assistant will be Larry Reed, council reports.

Chief Esch has worked on the department for 41 years, the last 14 as fire chief.

Both Mr. Hostetler and Mr. Reed have decades’ worth of experience on the West Liberty Fire Department, Chief Esch said.

“I feel good about Conrad taking over as chief,” Chief Esch said this morning. “The years he’s put in already will serve him well and he’s got a good head on his shoulders.

“My concern is for the department and I know it’s being left in good hands.”
