A 34-year-old Bellefontaine woman was charged with public intoxication after officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to reports of a naked woman running in the downtown area around 4 p.m. Saturday.
She was walking south from James’ Floor Coverings and Interiors, 139 S. Main St., wearing a coat they had provided her.
Witnesses observed her first running from a van.
Officers noted she had defined ligature marks around her neck.
They placed her under arrest because she appeared too intoxicated to care for herself.
Investigators continue to look into the incident to determine if she was the victim of a sexual assault.
