A woman who stole from her sister to feed a steady drug addiction was sentenced Monday before Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark S. O’Connor to local jail as the victim in the case made a tearful plea for the defendant to stop using heroin.
Brandy Lile, 32, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced to 180 days in Logan County Jail, five additional years’ community control and was ordered to pay $1,200 restitution for a first-degree misdemeanor count of theft.
The judge suspended all but 60 days of the sentence. Combined with 33 days of jail credit, the defendant has 27 days yet to serve in jail.
She pleaded guilty Sept. 23 to stealing assorted jewelry from her sister, Bobbie Jo Perez.
Mrs. Perez addressed the court and said her sister’s drug addiction resembles those seen on television, adding that she could never understand anyone choosing to live that lifestyle.
“My sister is a user of drugs and a user of people,” Mrs. Perez said, claiming that drugs have left her sister, “penniless, homeless and friendless.
