FRONT PAGE PHOTO: Assistant Chief Dustin Plikerd of the Richland Township Fire Department demonstrates his firefighter gear to students in Wesley Hall’s class at Indian Lake Elementary School. Chief Ron Smith also is pictured at the far right. The students learned about having a safe place to meet in case of a fire in their home. Other safety topics included: where to exit the house if a fire occurs, not playing with candles or fire and stopping, dropping and rolling. Firefighter Phil visited the school to teach students about fire safety using his ventriloquist skills. He reminded the students to “stay low and go,” to “get out and stay out,” and if your clothes are on fire to stop, drop and roll. He also encouraged them to talk to their parents about establishing a safe meeting site outside and to change the batteries in smoke detectors at least twice a year. (PHOTOS | INDIAN LAKE SCHOOLS)
