Archery season for deer is under way and this weekend will provide hunters with a new early muzzleloading season.
“This is an antlerless-only season regardless of the implement used by the hunter,” said Logan County Wildlife Officer Adam Smith, who works for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
Simply stated, don’t shoot any bucks with a black powder rifle, a bow or a crossbow Saturday and Sunday as the state wants hunters to harvest as many does as possible.
Also all hunters — archers or muzzleloaders — will have to wear hunter orange both days.
“The best tool we have for wildlife management is the hunter,” Officer Smith said, adding Ohio wants to encourage antlerless deer harvests throughout the season.
