Woman arrested for OVI in school parking lot


Noel A. Cayot, 42, of 2606 County Road 29, Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was issued a citation for having an open container in a motor vehicle after an incident at Benjamin Logan Middle School Monday afternoon.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the school about 4:55 p.m. in reference to an intoxicated woman in the parking lot who was at the school to pick up her child from after-school activities.

When deputies arrived, Ms. Cayot was sitting in her vehicle with the engine running. Her child was not with her in the vehicle, deputies said.

They observed that she showed signs of intoxication and there also was an open container of alcohol in her vehicle.

She was administered field sobriety tests, and then was transported to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, where she tested a 0.236 blood alcohol content level.

• George T. Kocher Jr., 44, of 9026 Prince Road, was charged with OVI and was cited for driving with an expired registration and having an open container in a motor vehicle after a traffic stop early Monday morning.

A deputy driving in the area of north State Route 235 observed Mr. Kocher’s vehicle that had an expired registration and a traffic stop was initiated about 1 a.m.

Signs of intoxication were observed. Cups containing an alcoholic beverage also were found in his vehicle.

Mr. Kocher refused to submit to field sobriety tests, and he also refused to take a blood alcohol content test at the sheriff’s office.

The defendant also was served a Bellefontaine Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of assault.

Business break-in reported

Deputies responded to the Retention Knob and Supply, 4905 W. State Route 274, Huntsville, Sunday afternoon in reference to a break-in report.

The company manager reported that a large variety of machinist tools worth about $1,000 had been taken from the facility sometime between Friday night and Sunday. No signs of forced entry were observed to the building.

• James Ward, 11348 N. S.R. 235, Lot 18, Lakeview, reported Friday that his 1981 Honda motorcycle was taken from his residence overnight.

• Raymond Barrett of Powell reported Friday that a number of power cords to a generator, drills, lights and welder were taken from a barn and carport at his father’s property, 9747 County Road 38, Belle Center.

Hit/skip crash reported

Deputies are investigating a hit/skip crash that occurred about 3:15 p.m. Saturday at state routes 720 and 235.

Abigail Ruark, 20, of Sidney, reported that she was operating a westbound car on S.R. 720 and was slowing for a stop sign when a black four-door car struck the rear of her vehicle and then left the scene.

• Steven Oliver, 55, of North Lewisburg, did not report any injuries when his northbound pickup struck a deer about 7:40 p.m. Friday on County Road 153 at County Road 157.
