Teen sought after Auglaize County school lockdowns found in Tennessee

NEW BREMEN — A teen whose running away led to a precautionary lockdown in New Bremen and Minster schools Thursday was located over the weekend.

Mitchell Hoying, 17, of New Bremen, was found in Campbell County, Tenn., on Sunday, according to Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon.

Last week, Solomon said the teen took cash and a maroon 1997 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck from his grandmother’s home in Shelby County early in the week. At the time, Solomon said he might have taken a rifle and shotgun too.

The stolen pickup truck and firearms were also recovered by Tennessee authorities. Hoying will be taken back to Auglaize County to face criminal charges, Solomon said, although the matter remained under investigation.

Police officials in New Bremen and Minster notified the schools in the villages about the incident Thursday, leading to the precautionary lockdown. Solomon said there were no indications the teen planned to harm pupils or officials.
