Health district prepares for upcoming flu season

Logan County District Board of Health members at their Wednesday afternoon meeting set prices for flu vaccines in preparation for the approaching flu season.

The cost of the vaccine for children ages 18 and younger will be $20 for either the reg- ular injection or FluMist. For adults, both the regular injection and FluMist are $30, and a high dose vaccine for people age 65 and older is $40.

Nursing Director Kay Schroer said the Logan County Health District typically receives its flu vaccines at the end of September, so she expects the immunizations to be available in a few weeks.

With this year’s flu shots, a new quadrivalent vaccine is available that will protect against two strains of influenza A and also two types of influenza B, Mrs. Schroer noted. This vaccine will be available in the immunizations for ages 3 through 64.

The high dose vaccine that offers additional antigens for older adults is a trivalent vaccine.
