A male and female were arrested Wednesday afternoon after they allegedly broke into an elderly woman’s home Tuesday and stole jewelry from her Huntsville residence.
Christina M. Cox, 29, and Aaron M. Mertz, 33, both at large, were located at 312 N. Park St., Bellefontaine, at 4:55 p.m. by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Both were charged with theft from the elderly, a fifth-degree felony, and were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Tuesday, deputies responded to a home in Huntsville about 12:40 p.m. on a report from a 92-year-old woman.
The victim said the man and woman had knocked at her door and asked to use the restroom. The man informed the resident that he had been at her home the previous week trimming bushes.
The elderly woman allowed the two subjects to enter her home and they each used the restroom. However, the victim became suspicious of their actions when they were out of her view for an extended period of time.
After the two subjects left, the woman checked her residence and discovered signs of a theft.
The victim was able to provide deputies with a detailed description of the suspects and their vehicle.
Deputies investigated the incident, and identified Mr. Mertz and Ms. Cox as the two suspects.
Warrants for the two were obtained and served by the Bellefontaine officers.
