West Liberty-Salem school board approved a rental agreement with the Logan County Fair Board, hired a new part-time music teacher and recalled a teacher’s aide Tuesday at a regular meeting.
The school will pay the fair board $1,000 to rent five portable bleachers to serve as visitors seating for the upcoming football season. The stands are functional enough, school administrators said, but they sit lower to the ground than did the old ones, and may create some sight problems for visiting fans. They will seat about 300 fans.
The temporary bleachers are necessary because the previous stands failed a state inspection in May. Cost to fix the old bleachers was estimated at about $4,000.
Miami Valley Disaster Solutions Inc. removed the broken down bleachers in July at a cost of $1,950.
In other action, the board accepted the resignation of Sally Engle as half-time elementary vocal music teacher, and approved Bethany Smucker to the same position.
A part-time, 3.5 hour per day contract for paraprofessional Kim Adams was recalled. She will replace a vacancy left by Susan Krabill. Her contract is restored to its original step at the time of her layoff.
Also approved were hourly wages for substitute workers. Hourly pay rates for substitutes include: $8.70, cooks; $10.36, custodians; $9.57, aides and secretaries; and $15.15, bus drivers.
Substitute teachers will be paid $85 per day for the first 26 days of service, and $105 per day thereafter.
