Subject of removing mayor from office broached
A half hour closed door discussion at Tuesday’s meeting of the Belle Center Village Council resulted in a compromise about a village employee that has been the subject of controversy of late.
That deal, however, in which Mayor Rhonda Fulmer conceded to the opinion of Village Administrator Gerald Houchin, proved to be for naught after Mr. Houchin learned this morning the man he wanted to hire has already taken a different job.
After taking care of routine business, the issue of hiring a third full-time staff member came up — the same issue that prompted Mr. Houchin to storm out of a special meeting two weeks ago.
Mayor Fulmer immediately asked for an executive session to discuss employees, which excludes the general public from the discussion. After some debate as to the need for an executive session, council approved going behind closed doors and remained in discussion with Mr. Houchin and the mayor for a half hour.
