Cell phone tower project moves forward

The Russells Point Village Council voted Monday night to pass an ordinance allowing Mayor Robin Reames to enter into an agreement with Verizon Wireless for the construction of a temporary cell phone tower in the village.

The temporary tower will be located at the Russells Point Municipal Building, 433 State Route 708.

The ordinance passed on the agreement that it be sent to Village Solicitor Rob Eshenbaugh to be clarified and revised with changes made by the council.

The vote passed 4-2, with council President Steve Reid and John Huffman voting against the measure.

“I mainly voted against the measure because I don’t approve of the wording and I wanted to enter an agreement over the building of the permanent tower before we discussed the temporary tower,” said President Reid.

Councilman Huffman agreed that he also was against the wording of the ordinance.

The council also discussed the possibility of helping the new Chinese restaurant owners financially by taking on some of the cost of installing a drain basin for their parking lot required by council ordinance. The restaurant will be located at 223 State Route 708.

After lengthy discussion, the council asked for more detailed plans and information for the next council meeting.

The council also scheduled a Rules and Ordinance committee meeting to review and revise part of the parking lot ordinance in the village.

Council will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 19.
