Roe trial set to start Monday

Roe-head 111

ROE

A man arrested here in 2011 is set to stand trial Monday for allegedly killing a dermatologist outside her Lexington, Ky., doctor’s office.

Marty Lee Roe, 67, is accused of gunning down Martha Post, 55, on Sept. 1, 2011.

Six days later, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals apprehended him at Brother’s Bar, 11977 N. State Route 235, Lakeview.

Sheriff’s Det. Phil Bailey will testify during the trial. He found a handgun and ammunition wrapped in a plastic bag stashed behind the battery of the suspect’s van.

An arrest warrant later indicated the handgun and ammunition were similar to the weapon used to slay Dr. Post.

The suspect has been found competent to stand trial. There were three postponements to his trial as he underwent psychiatric evaluations and changed lawyers.
