A part-time West Liberty police officer and a U.S. Army veteran will be the newest additions to the Bellefontaine Police Department.
M. Andrew Loehr and Isaac Chiles will be given oaths of commission at 1 p.m. Aug. 2.
The two officers will fill spots in the department that came open with the retirements of Lt. Ron Birt and Patrol Officer Randy Knox.
Mr. Chiles will begin classes Aug. 21 in the Peace Officers Training Academy to earn his certification with scheduled completion for December.
Officer Loehr has his peace officer certification and will begin field training to learn the city department’s procedures starting Aug. 5.
Police Chief Brandon Standley said the two new hires will help, but there remain holes in the daily patrol needs and there are more retirements on the horizon.
He hopes the Bellefontaine City Civil Service Commission approves scheduling a new entry level test.
