West Liberty Village Council considered the purchase of a new truck for its street department at a recent regular meeting.
Council has received a quote from White’s Service Center for a 2014 2X4 diesel truck in the amount of $30,994.30. Council has also received a quote to outfit the vehicle with mudflaps, an undercoat, hoist, snowplow and spreader in the amount of $22,374.
The finance committee was to discuss the matter further at its next meeting.
Council did approve a motion to have White’s Service Center repair the transmission on the village’s existing truck in the amount of $3,000.
A pair of catch basins on Baird Street and U.S. Route 68 will be repaired and/or replaced at a cost between $500 and $600.
A quote was also received for $21,516.25 for chipping and sealing several streets in town. Clerk Cindee Boyd indicated she would check with Logan County Commissioners about dipping into the village’s share of funds for street repairs.
Residents are reminded that Aug. 1 is the day village administrators will be at the municipal building between 2:30 and 7 p.m. to field questions about the new 1 percent village income tax. Call the clerk’s office, 465-2716 for an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.
Nominations for the Beautification Award are starting to come in. The annual award is given on Labor Day. Voting begins Aug. 12.
Police Chief Shane Oelker announced he will be advertising for a part-time auxiliary officer. It will be at least three months before a new officer can be trained and working on his own, Chief Oelker said.
