UPDATE: Prior sexual offender pleads to new crimes

An elderly man with a prior sex offense conviction pleaded guilty Monday before Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark S. O’Connor to three charges of gross sexual imposition, third-degree felonies.

Marvin Heminger, 63, of 866 Hilltop Drive, admitted to abusing three girls under the age of 13 between 2009 and 2012.

Prosecutors are recommending a total of eight years in prison. He will be labeled a Tier II sexual offender.

Mr. Heminger pleaded guilty in 1991 to one count of gross sexual imposition. He did a year in prison and three years’ probation in that case.

The defendant was charged in December in an eight-count indictment that included a charge of rape.

He will be sentenced Aug. 19.

Claybaugh pleads to burglaries

A local burglar faces consecutive sentences after pleading guilty Monday to a pair of recent burglaries.

Joshua Claybaugh, 28, admitted to burglarizing residences at 805 N. Park St. and 750 Arlington Road.

In the first burglary, several electronics and jewelry were stolen and sold cheaply to people the defendant knew.

Mr. Claybaugh is accused of kicking in a back door during the Arlington Road burglary to gain access to the house and take multiple coin books and a handgun. The defendant was identified in a photo lineup in that case by a drainage ditch worker who saw the defendant come onto the property that day.

The defendant has previous burglary convictions in both juvenile and adult courts.

He will be sentenced Aug. 19.

Three defendants were sentenced to community control sanctions and two others pleaded guilty in other cases this week in Logan County Common Pleas Court.
