Bellefontaine Police Chief Brandon Standley said Jacob Ulrey had been in an argument with a woman who was at the business.
Officers were responding to a report Mr. Ulrey had a gun to his head in the parking lot, but witnesses report he shot himself in the head with a handgun before police could get to the scene.
Chief Standley said it was determined the victim, who was found lying between a car and a sport utility vehicle, was still alive.
Paramedics with the Bellefontaine Fire & EMS Department squad rushed him to the Mary Rutan Hospital helipad for a flight to Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers and detectives interviewed four witnesses at the scene, and they recovered the handgun.
Investigators are waiting on a coroner’s ruling of death as they continue their investigation.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
