A man admitted Monday before Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark S. O’Connor to sexually assaulting two girls under the age of 10.
Timothy Showens, 50, of 700 Township Road 179, Apt. 7C, pleaded guilty to two charges of gross sexual imposition, third-degree felonies.
The girls’ father reported the abuse in November 2011. He abused the children, to whom he’s not related, over a two-plus year period between 2009 and 2011, according to court documents.
In interviews with officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department, the defendant at first denied any wrongdoing, admitting only that he may have “accidentally” played with the one of the girls in a locked room. He told police he played with the girls separately because they often fought.
He agreed to a polygraph test, the results of which showed he failed, prosecutors said.
Mr. Showens said in court that he takes certain prescription medications, but wasn’t sure which ones, as someone else keeps track of his pills for him. He went on to say he’s been before a federal judge in an ongoing Social Security disability claim.
Prosecutors are recommending a total of four years in prison for the defendant when he is sentenced Aug. 12. As part of the plea, the prosecution will not take a position on early release when that time comes. He must also register as a Tier II sexual offender.
