KENTON — A Fort Jennings man suffered serious injuries trying to escape justice on Tuesday afternoon.
Carl Hartford had just been sentenced to 50 months in prison on multiple drug-related charges by Hardin County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott N. Barrett, when he tried flee, according to Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart.
Prior to being taken into custody, Hartford ran from the courtroom, jumped over the balcony from the third floor and landed on the second floor, suffering numerous compound fractures.
Hartford, who was combative at the time, continued to resist and it took approximately six deputies to subdue him, Everhart said.
Hartford was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital before being flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment.
Everhart said Hartford was out on bond at the time of the sentencing.
