A motorist was stranded around 11:20 a.m. Monday when he tried to drive under the railroad viaduct on west Lake Avenue. Heavy rain washed debris over the catch basin grates. Water quickly collected under the viaduct and rose to a depth of more than three feet, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report. Street crews posted high water signs for the flood-prone area. The Bellefontaine wastewater treatment plant recorded 2.41 inches of rain Monday. National Weather Service monitor Wayne Wickerham of Huntsville reported just over a half-inch of rainfall Monday, on top of the 2.88 inches that fell Sunday. Forecasts call for a chance of rain the rest of the week, with rainfall likely today and Thursday. (EXAMINER PHOTO | JOEL E. MAST)
