The chief, who has been with the department since 1972, recommended Conrad Hostetler as his replacement, but council said they would like to have a detailed description of the fire chief position before making a final decision.

During the meeting council also passed two motions to place a 2.5-mill renewal levy on the November ballot. The levy will generate $54,000 per year for the village, according to numbers from the Logan County Auditor’s Office.

In other matters, the village is accepting Beautification Award nominations until Aug. 9. A $50 gift certificate will be presented at the Labor Day Festival. Nominations should include pictures before and after the beautification project.

Liberty Township Trustees and council will have their annual joint meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 8, prior to the regular council meeting.
