Bellefontaine Rotarians were informed Monday that more than 88 percent of the funds needed for the 15.8-mile bike trail project between Urbana and Bellefontaine has been raised.
Bellefontaine Rotary Club member Scott Coleman, left, presented a check Monday for $3,813.75, to Simon Kenton Pathfinders members Doug Chivington, Adam Brannon and Carmen Scott. The donation, made jointly by the local Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, will go toward the Pathfinders 15.8-mile bike trail project between Urbana and Bellefontaine.
Speaker Doug Chivington, a member of the Simon Kenton Pathfinders, said about $210,000 has been raised locally to date for the $800,000 project. Mr. Chivington said about $90,000 is still needed to meet the local match requirement of the half-million dollar Ohio Department of Natural Resources grant already committed to the effort.
“Bellefontaine,” the Pathfinders member said, “will be the trail head.”
Being at the start of a trail connecting Bellefontaine to Cincinnati will be economically significant, he noted.
