A defendant faces life in prison when he is sentenced Monday on charges of multiple sex crimes against a young child.
Matthew Haley, 28, of Bellefontaine, pleaded guilty this week in Logan County Common Pleas Court to rape, a first-degree felony and gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony.
Charges originated from a Dec. 23 complaint that the defendant abused a five-year-old girl. A February indictment had charged him with two counts each of rape and GSI.
Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 15 years to life in prison, meaning Mr. Haley wouldn’t be eligible for release for at least 15 years. Even then, it would be up to the state parole board to decide whether he would get out.
The defendant will also be labeled a Tier III sexual offender.
Other disposed cases included:
William Nevers, 71, of Bellefontaine and Patricia Bailey, 53, of Huntsville, pleaded guilty to workers’ compensation fraud and both were placed on the prosecutors’ pretrial diversion program.
Elvis Ellison, 51, of Sidney, was sentenced to 5 years, 10 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution for two counts of burglary and a community control violation.
