What began as a project to honor local veterans has earned a local retailer its own honor.

Thursday afternoon, Ashley Furniture was awarded the American Legion’s Red, White and Blue Award, which is presented to an individual, organization or business that takes an extra step to promote Americanism.
About three years ago, the store began collecting photos of local veterans and posting them prominently on a large Wall of Honor in the center of the store.
“It means a lot to us, but we don’t do it to be honored,” store general manager Brian Whitaker said. “It’s our honor to honor veterans.”
