Defendant found guilty of stealing aluminum

Johnston-Eric

JOHNSTON

A man was convicted Thursday by Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark S. O’Connor of breaking into a shed on a Lakeview property and taking assorted aluminum for scrap.

The court found Eric Johnston, 42, of 175 Hoonbeck Alley, Lakeview, guilty of breaking and entering following a short bench trial. The defendant elected to forego his right to a jury trial May 8, and, instead, opted to have the judge decide his case.

Mr. Johnston denied having taken aluminum siding and gutters valued at about $350 from a shed situated at the back of a property at 8960 Court Street on Orchard Island, but a neighbor testified she saw the defendant taking the metal.
