Timothy S. Sherer, 18, of Bellefontaine, was transported by Macochee squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for injuries sustained in a three-vehicle crash about noon Sunday on U.S. Route 68 near Township Road 199.

Troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report he was operating a northbound car when traffic ahead of him slowed for a vehicle making a turn into a private drive. His car struck the rear of a pickup operated by Donald F. Hostetler, 87 of West Liberty.

The pickup then struck the rear of a northbound minivan operated by Raymond J. Etgen, 50, of West Liberty.

As a result of the crash, the car went off the right side of the road and came to rest in a field, while the pickup drove off the left side of the road and struck a pine tree. The minivan came to a rest in the roadway.

The other two drivers and their passengers did not report any injuries.

No alcohol or drugs were suspected as factors in the crash. Mr. Sherer was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.

• Troopers continue to investigate a one-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon that sent driver Samuel R. March, 18, of Lakeview to Lima Memorial Hospital by Richland Township squad.

Mr. March reportedly was operating a northwestbound car on State Route 273 near County Road 97 about 2:50 p.m. when he drove off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and came to rest in a field.

No citations have yet been issued.
