Russells Point receives $70,000 for trail

Russells Point officials announce that the Ohio Public Works Commission Clean Ohio Fund has awarded a $70,606.00 grant to the village for The Indian Lake/Great Miami River Open Space and New Trail Extension.

The trail is a project that village officials have been working on since February that has come to fruition with countless hours of effort from Patrick J. Beam, landscape architect with Bassett Associates of Lima, and the continued support of the Duff and Rudolph families, Duff Quarry, Indian Lake Watershed Project, Logan County Commissioners, Logan Union Champaign Planning Commission, Rudolph Foods and Russells Point’s village council.

The project has major components which include an easement of a 6.78 acre parcel provided by the commissioners, locally known as “the abandoned railroad bed,” located in the southeast region of the village. The new grant will facilitate the creation of 3,195 linear feet of additional trail to the Indian Lake/Great Miami River Open Space Project and additional access for community residents.

In addition to the grant and the donation of the easement, the village is soliciting monetary and material donations from local organizations, businesses and individuals. Signs and permanent recognition of donations will be incorporated into the design of the trail. Sponsored benches will be placed along the walking path.

Construction of the project is expected to begin this summer.
