‘Top Chefs’ expand their food horizons at academy

Measuring, dicing, slicing, sautéing, stirring and sampling all were on the menu at this week at the “Top Chef Academy” class, where pupils ranging in age from 7 through middle school students worked together to create various dishes from around the world.

The class was part of the weeklong Summer Enrichment Academy at Bellefontaine High School, which was offered to students throughout Logan County and also featured courses in drama, art, TV and technology, language arts, history and science.

Master chef Marybeth Motasem, who is a BHS family and consumer sciences teacher, led the younger chefs through creating pepperoni and cheese calzones Thursday and a creamy rotini pasta with ham and vegetables.
