Logan County Fair Board members approved a contract for fairgrounds cleanup and accepted a sizable donation on behalf of an East Liberty farmer Wednesday during a regular meeting.
The fair board agreed to a $7,500 contract with Bobcat Multi-Works to clean the grounds for $4,000, clean restrooms for an additional $1,200 and provide portable toilets for $2,500, with a $200 discount because the board accepts them as the contractor for all three.
A $2,500 donation was accepted from the Monsanto Fund, on behalf of farmers Robert and Kathy Ackley of East Liberty, as announced previously. The Ackleys were chosen by the Monsanto Fund, which is the philanthropic arm of Monsanto Company, to make two $2,500 donations to agriculture-related non-profits of their choice.
Mr. Ackley chose the fair board, and Benjamin Logan FFA, board president Skip Jackson said. The FFA chapter was presented its check earlier.
Mr. Jackson reported also that five of six daily sponsorships during fair week have been purchased. Tuesday is the only remaining open sponsorship day. Sponsorships for junior fair and the grandstands are also trickling in, he said.
“It’s working,” Mr. Jackson said. “Every little bit helps.”
Lastly, the board approved Brenda Oda as secretary for open class shows.
The next fair board meeting is April 10.
