Suspect lodged after foot chase, struggle

A suspect was arrested on outstanding warrants and possession of drug paraphernalia following a brief foot chase and struggle about 3:43 p.m. Tuesday.

Kodi Smotherman, 21, at large, was observed walking in the area of north Hayes Street and North Avenue by an off-duty Logan County Sheriff’s deputy aware of the suspect’s outstanding warrants.

The deputy pursued the suspect to a residence at 501 N. Hayes St. Upon arrival, police found the suspect had been subdued in a rear bedroom by the deputy, who utilized pepper spray and attempted to deploy his Taser on the suspect.

A search of Mr. Smotherman’s person also turned up drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
