“The Ghosts of Education Past, Present and Yet to Come,” a twist on the Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, was presented Monday evening by speaker Debbie Ellis during the 37th annual Bellefontaine Rotary Club Honors Banquet.

The event at Bellefontaine High School honored area high school seniors who have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Mrs. Ellis, current Marysville City Schools 7-12 gifted coordinator and retired Bellefontaine City Schools educator, utilized three community members in her speech to students.

Second-grader Sophie Adelsberger was the Ghost of Education Past, and she told of her past experiences in kindergarten.

Teacher Kris Swisher, who played the Ghost of Education Present, talked about mapping out a future while in high school and read portions of Dr. Seuss’ Oh, the Places You Will Go.

Finally, teacher Phil Forsythe played the Ghost of Education Yet to Come, and he talked about predictions for future careers that will be heavily influenced by technology.

Overall, Mrs. Ellis emphasized the importance of life-long learning.

“Your education never stops,” she said.
