Smiths more than just environmental stewards
For Sara Storm of Bellefontaine, Randy and Vicki Smith of rural Bellefontaine are more than just State’s Cooperators of the Year — “They are good neighbors.”
The Smiths were presented with the state distinction the during the recent Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts’ 70th annual conference in Columbus. They also were honored as the Logan Soil and Water Conversation District’s 2012 Cooperators of the Year winners in the fall, as previously reported in the Examiner.
“The article stated ‘Every day they walk the walk, working hard to make their dream a reality, being good stewards of the soil and the earth, being good citizens and simply, humbly, being good people,’” Mrs. Storm wrote in a letter to the Examiner. “I would like to add ‘being good neighbors’ to the list of their attributes.”
Mrs. Storm explained that her son recently had hip surgery. Since then, she said, the Smiths have gotten the family’s mail and newspaper deliveries, fed their dog and plowed the driveway and walks of snow.
“They are definitely the best neighbors we’ve ever had,” she continued.
“Oh, that we might all be ‘good Samaritans.’”
