Bellefontaine Schools Board of Education members accepted at a special meeting Friday morning one of the last major sets of contracts relating to the construction of two new school buildings with the Ohio School Facilities Commission.
The board awarded loose furnishing bids in four different categories to two different companies — Zimmerman School Equipment of Blacklick and Tom Sexton & Associates Furniture and Equipment of Walton, Ky.
Zimmerman received the bids for the classroom furnishings at $384,212.15, and also office systems furnishings at $118,368.10.
The other two categories, tables and specialty items, were awarded to Tom Sexton & Associates at costs of $85,730.59 and $80,854.31, respectively. Specialty items include teaching easels, choral risers and a gym floor cover.
Bill Badenhop, executive director of instructional services, said these furnishings likely will be installed in the new elementary school and middle school during the summer after all other work has been completed.
The two buildings currently are under construction through the $35.93 million project on about 65 acres located along Ludlow Road.
Both facilities are slated to open for the 2013-14 school year, and Superintendent Beth Harman said a grand opening celebration for the community likely will be hosted at the beginning of the school year, possibly on Labor Day weekend.
