During a regular meeting Monday, the Russells Point Village Council and the village solicitor concurred with the village zoning officer’s decision regarding a resident appealing a zoning decision regarding a deck on his property.
Resident Andy Morgan had on two occasions applied for and was denied a zoning permit for a deck. Officials argued the deadline of 30 days had passed to apply for a variance or appeal the decision. Both the council and the solicitor explained that his opportunities had been exhausted and agreed with the decision of the officer.
Officials have revived the Safe Communities Political Action Committee, with a mission to support the Russells Point Police Department. Its first tasks will be exploring and researching methods of funding and designing a method of compensation for auxiliary officers to be later presented to the council. The first meeting is at 6 p.m. March 13.
Councilman John Huffman suggested the $1,070 recently received from the Logan County Solid Waste District for recycling be used to help fund the cost of Dumpsters to be used for collection of hard-to-dispose of items in the spring. Officials said this program was a huge success for the village last year.
After discussions regarding the Code Enforcement Officer and related office matters, council determined the officer should be available to residents on Saturdays by appointment only and that the officer will make random inspections in the village on Saturdays.
Representatives of the Central Collection Agency, the village’s tax administrator, will help residents files their municipal income tax forms from 1 to 7 p.m. March 21.
The Russells Point Neighborhood Watch Group hosts an Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m. March 31 at Leppich Field. Donations of plastic eggs and candy may be dropped off at the municipal building during normal business hours. A bake sale is planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 29 at the municipal building.
The Clean Ohio Committee meets at 6:15 a.m. March 25; Ordinance and Rules Committee at 7 p.m. March 20 and 25, to discuss the personnel ordinance and job descriptions for village staff; and the next regular council meeting is at 7 p.m. March 18.
