Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff's Office report that an impaired driver caused two separate crashes Monday night after the driver reportedly left the scene of the first crash.

In the first crash about 9:52 p.m., Jose Garcia Jiminez, 24, was operating a southbound jeep on south Troy Road at County Road 11 when he struck the rear of pickup operated by Danny Ramirez, 22, of Springfield.

Mr. Jiminez left the scene of this crash and was located in the 2000 block of County Road 18, where he had been involved in a second crash about 10:07 p.m. He reportedly drove off the right side of the road and struck a telephone junction box.

Mr. Jiminez was cited for OVI, failure to control, failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead, and driving without an operator’s license. He was not given field sobriety tests because of his level of intoxication, deputies said.

No injuries were reported in either crash. Both the jeep and the pickup sustained light damage.

The defendant was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he tested a .191 blood alcohol content level.
