URBANA — Michael A. Dean, 29, was sentenced to five years in prison earlier this week in Champaign County Common Pleas Court for firing a gunshot in the 100 block of Main Street in Urbana last year.
During a plea hearing Jan. 16, Dean pleaded guilty to one count each of illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises and tampering with evidence. Three other counts and firearm specifications in all five counts were dismissed.
Dean also was indicted or convicted of assault on a peace officer and felonious assault in two cases in 2004 and 2006, according to the grand jury indictment. Upon release from prison in 2012, Dean was placed on post-release control and was under those terms during the most recent incident.
Because of being on post-release control, two years were added to what would have been a three-year term. Dean also was ordered to pay a $500 fine.
