A meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday to decide whether Bellefontaine BPOElks Lodge 132 will continue to exist, according to a letter mailed to members and dated Feb. 23.
“The purpose of the meeting is to vote to surrender the lodge charter for closing the lodge in order to allow the possibility of a future Bellefontaine Lodge 132,” the letter, written by special representatives James A. Sommer and Donald Flora, reads. “This will also permit sale of lodge and club items, as well as the facility to pay all unpaid outstanding bills.”
The lodge has been financially strapped of late, culminating in a November decision by the Ohio Department of Taxation not to renew the lodge’s liquor license because of unpaid taxes.
Representatives from the Ohio Southwest District removed some items from the building on Tuesday, lodge members report.
