A suspect is lodged in jail after running from law enforcement following a suspected drunk driving traffic stop about 11 p.m. Wednesday at south Main Street and Water Avenue.
Troopers from the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop of Anthony Garman, 21, of Bellefontaine. Troopers report the suspect was generally cooperative throughout the stop, until he was about to be placed under arrest for suspected drunk driving.
With one handcuff already in place, the suspect resisted arrest and scuffled with the trooper, eventually knocking him to the ground and fleeing northbound on foot.
Bellefontaine police and Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted the state patrol in tracking the suspect. He was located about an hour later and was taken into custody in a driveway of a residence in the 100 block of west Auburn Avenue.
So far, the suspect has been charged with a felony count of escape and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
A state patrol trooper reportedly sustained a sprained wrist in the struggle. Additional charges are pending.
