County native to receive distinguished award



A local high school graduate and Logan County native will be recognized at an upcoming ceremony with a prestigious award from his collegiate alma mater.

Joseph A. Shultz has been named the recipient of the 2013 Young Professional Achievement Award by The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences Alumni Society.

Mr. Shultz, who currently works as the chief economist for the U.S. Senate’s Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, will be presented with his award at a luncheon set for Saturday, March 2, at the Fawcett Center for Tomorrow on the campus of OSU.

Mr. Shultz, a 1997 Indian Lake High School graduate, has worked in Washington, D.C., since 2005. Prior to joining the staff of the Senate agriculture committee, he served as a primary adviser to Sen. Sherrod Brown on issues related to agriculture, energy and the environment. He also worked on the 2008 farm bill and legislation dealing with Ohio’s clean energy economy.
