Mary Rutan earns “A” rating for safety

Mary Rutan Hospital was recently honored with a top hospital safety score following an analysis by an independent, non-profit organization run by employers and large purchasers of health benefits.

The Leapfrog Group assigned Mary Rutan an “A” rating for hospital safety — a grade that only goes to those select few hospitals that earn a national distinction for excellence in patient safety.

Leapfrog Group assigned “A” through “F” scores based on preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections. The Hospital Safety Score was compiled under the guidance of experts on patient safety and is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.

Scores are calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog Group’s nine-member expert panel. The Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.

“We are very proud to be recognized as the only hospital in our six-county area to receive an “A” rating,” said Mandy Goble, CEO of Mary Rutan Hospital.

“This is a true testament that bigger does not always mean better. Our hospital went head to head with many of the larger hospitals in our region and we were the only one to receive the ‘A’ rating.”
