Bomb threat triggers lockdown
A 12-year-old Urbana middle school student could face charges after he scribbled a bomb threat on the wall of boys’ bathroom about 11 a.m. Friday.
Students at Urbana Local Intermediate School, 2468 State Route 54, were evacuated without incident and transferred to the nearby Urbana Township building.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office reports the boy admitted to writing the message, which was apparently intended as a hoax.
Potential charges may include inducing panic and disrupting public services. He was released to a guardian.
A K-9 unit was provided by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office to assist.
