Eighth-graders invited to ‘rise above’ negative pressures

Workshop set at Camp Willson

Many different pressures plague local students as they make their way through middle school and high school. They include peer pressure to drink, smoke or try illegal drugs, as well as to work hard to keep up academically and on the athletic field.

A free workshop hosted Monday by the Logan County Drug Free Youth Coalition aims to help local students sort through these different influences and to “rise above” the negative pressures.

All local eighth-graders are invited to take part in an “Above the Influence” event from 8 to 11 a.m. at Camp Willson, 2732 County Road 11, during their day off school for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Participating students need to have transportation to the camp and will need to complete a release form upon their arrival. To sign up, they should contact coalition project director Margaret Appel at 292-3042 or e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
