Suspected burglar found at neighboring home

Detectives with the Bellefontaine Police Department didn’t have to look far Monday for a burglary suspect.

A box of copper tubing leaning against a house about 200 yards east of 612 Eastern Ave. and dolly marks in the grassy yards and alley between the two properties were more than enough to raise their suspicions and led them to knock on the door of Michael Beck’s 621 Cooper Ave. residence.

While there, the detectives also spotted a pry bar with paints scraps matching the Eastern Avenue home’s paint.

As they talked with the suspect, the 25-year-old man picked up the bar and tried to hide it under some concrete blocks lying nearby.

A check of the residence for other suspects led to the discovery of a washer and dryer set hooked up and ready to use in the basement.

Victim Heather Hainey was able to provide serial numbers that matched the appliances found in the basement.

Officers also recovered other tools and household items stolen over the weekend from the Hainey residence which was under repairs from storm damage in 2012.

Within two hours of the reported burglary, the suspect was charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and tampering with evidence and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
