Logan County Fair Board members agreed to a change in location for beef tagging, and formed committees to handle a couple other lingering issues at Wednesday’s regular meeting.
Beginning this December, T-bone steers will be tagged at the fairground. Tagging previously was conducted at Jackson Livestock in DeGraff.
The fairground is more centrally located, board president Skip Jackson said, and only a third of the beef cattle and dairy steers were weighed for rate-of-gain. The location change was made to have access to scales.
The fair board is considering an open class rabbit competition to take place immediately after the junior fair rabbit show Wednesday during fair week. A silent auction would also be conducted in conjunction with the open rabbit show, allowing attendees to bid on any of the exhibited rabbits.
Mr. Jackson directed to committee the task of locking in more sponsorships for this year. He said the board is awaiting a few signed entertainment contracts that will be announced soon.
Part of the discussion Wednesday focused on a potential partnership with Shine FM radio to bring a Christian music act to the fair. The Christian radio station has estimated it could sell as many as 1,000 pre-sale concert tickets through local churches.
That issue was also directed to the entertainment committee.
The next regular fair board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13.
