UPDATE: Man jailed for domestic violence, damaging deputy’s cruiser

A DeGraff man was jailed about noon Saturday after he reportedly punched a wall at his residence and dented a law enforcement vehicle following a dispute that reportedly began over a gift card.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office charged Joseph L. Michel, 29, of 2869 Township Road 247, DeGraff, with domestic violence, resisting arrest and criminal damaging following a dispute with Cassie E. Scherer, 29, same address.

Ms. Scherer’s mother, Pamela Scherer, contacted deputies and told them the dispute began over a gift card the couple had received.

The dispute apparently escalated to the point that Mr. Michel had thrown a small table and punched a hole in the wall. Responding deputies noted the broken table and damaged wall.

The suspect blamed Ms. Scherer for the damage, and he resisted arrest, deputies report. Mr. Michel was placed against the hood of a deputy’s vehicle and then began to bang his head on the hood, leading to several dents in the patrol vehicle.

He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
