City native wins ‘Kiss of the Year’ contest

A couple with local ties will share a New Year’s Eve kiss in front of millions of people as a result of winning a national contest.

Bellefontaine native Capt. Seth Butler of the U.S. Air Force and his wife, Allie, will appear on the Nivea Kiss Stage in Times Square that evening after being named Nivea’s “Kiss of the Year” contest winners, his father reports.

They were chosen from three finalist couples through a vote conducted on Nivea’s Facebook page.

Prior to the Facebook vote, the contest finalists were selected after sharing their love stories on Nivea’s Facebook page. A panel of celebrity and expert judges led by Mario Lopez and Courtney Mazza then picked the top three couples.

As a result of their win, Capt. and Mrs. Butler will receive an expenses-paid trip to New York City, where they will join Mr. Lopez and Ms. Mazza on the Nivea Kiss Stage.

Mrs. Butler also will appear on a segment of The Today Show that will air the morning of Dec. 31.

Capt. Butler is a 2000 Bellefontaine High School graduate and a son of Tony R. and Jo Ellen Butler of Bellefontaine.

A flight commander, he recently returned home from service in Saudi Arabia and will be serving in Columbus, Miss., in the spring.

He and his wife are currently stationed in Charleston, S.C., but they have spent only a few months of their married lives together, which makes their contest win and trip to New York extra special, Tony said.

“I am so excited for them, as this will not only be a once in a lifetime event, but a chance for them to actually be together. They truly deserve this moment together.”
