A man who reached a plea agreement in 2009 to avoid a sex conviction is now under investigation for molesting multiple female relatives over several decades.
Robert A. Wintersteller, 44, of 11307 County Road 97, Belle Center, was arrested Tuesday after deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office located him at county road 12 and 26 around 3 p.m.
A loaded handgun was found in his vehicle.
The Logan County Prosecutor’s Office assisted deputies with obtaining search warrants for his home and for his business, Tri-County QWS LLC, 101 N. Madriver St.
Relatives told deputies the defendant may hurt others and himself.
He is currently lodged on charges of rape, sexual battery and carrying a concealed weapon.
In the earlier case, prosecutors had charged him with five counts of gross sexual imposition, but the case fell apart after the female victim recanted some of the allegations and her mother refused to cooperate with the prosecution.
He was convicted of child endangering, a misdemeanor.
Sheriff’s investigators continue to investigate the latest allegations. They are being assisted by Logan County Children’s Services and the Bellefontaine Police Department.
