The 2013 Polar Plunge season concludes the Freezin’ For A Reason on March 16 as Old Field Beach State Park, Indian Lake, Lakeview, hosts the final Plunge of the season March 16, with all proceeds going to support more than 23,000 Special Olympics athletes in Ohio.
As part of the Polar Plunge experience, participants obtain monetary pledges and then agree to jump, or slowly crawl, into the frigid waters to earn their pledges.
A minimum in pledges, $50-75 depending on age and location, is necessary to participate. All plungers receive a T-shirt and food and non-alcoholic beverages at a post-plunge party. There also are incentive prizes for those who collect more than the minimum pledge. Individuals and groups are welcome to participate; personalized on-line fundraising pages are available.
Those afraid to plunge can take part in “Too Chicken to Plunge.” To participate, one raises a minimum of $30 and is awarded with a “Too Chicken to Plunge” T-shirt. Teams of “chickens” may be formed in support of favorite plungers.
