Mad River Mountain begins process
Snow is flying atop Mad River Mountain, but ski lifts remain grounded as daytime temperatures will prohibit the mountain from opening this weekend as officials had previously hoped.
Overnight Wednesday and through this morning, 133 fan guns across all 144 acres of terrain blasted snow for 14 consecutive hours. The goal, according to a press release, is to put out as much snow as possible over the next few nights and then leave it alone until the next round of snow-making weather rolls in.
Forecasters have predicted a weekend warm up, but expect temperatures will drop into the low 20s and even teens by Tuesday, which could give staff an opportunity to start the snowmaking system back up.
A definitive opening day has not yet been set. However, the press release indicates Mad River Mountain will open, “any hour on any day once we feel the conditions are right.”
